PETE CARTER TRIBUTE NIGHT(February 20, 2009)This was a great night organised by Rex & Romy Gates at the Peterborough Sports & Leisure Club, New England, Peterborough. Many local bands and artistes who had performed at The Cherry Tree, Oundle Road, Peterborough whilst Pete and Joan were Landlord and Landlady gave their time and talents free of charge to raise money for Alzheimers Disease. Tickets went like the proverbial hot cakes so a good total is expected from ticket sales and the collection buckets. The final total raised was £1,587.26. Everyone involved behind the scenes, compering and performing really enjoyed themselves. It was a fitting tribute to Pete who championed live music in Peterborough, aided and abetted by the delightful Joan. Alzheimers is a terrible disease but, with luck, a cure will be found. Until then, let's keep on rocking and, in the well known words of whoever it was (Freddie Mercury among others) "The Show Must Go On". Pete would have applauded the thought of the show going on, and it will until Alzheimers is a thing of the past. I like to think that he was tapping his feet and generally having a great time and I hope he liked it. Thanks to all who performed, helped, cajoled and bought tickets. As "Joey The Lips" said in the film "The Commitments" - GIVE YOURSELVES A PAT ON THE BACK FOR A JOB WELL DONE! |
